A model for computing thermally-driven shallow flows

چکیده

Abstract In many natural disasters such as overland oil spills or lava flows, physical fluid properties density change when considering non-homogeneous spatial and time variable distributions of the temperature. This effect is even more remarkable these flows show a non-Newtonian behaviour due to sensitivity their rheological viscosity yield stress cases, temperature becomes significant that drives behaviour, which must be solved using an energy equation coupled with free surface flow system. Special attention devoted thermal source terms include all heat exchanges, modelling sometimes can govern complete behaviour. Fluid density, stress, also affected by temperature, recomputed every step. Summarizing, this work presents 2D model variations, could modify transfer mechanisms. The applied spill simulations heating/cooling test cases are carried out ensure system balance. As conclusions, it said numerical results demonstrate importance exchange effects those variations.

The Equations of Motion for Thermally Driven, Buoyant Flows

In this paper a set of approximate equations is derived which is applicable to very nonadiabati c, nondissipative, buoyant flows of a perfect gas. The flows are assumed to be generated by a heat source in which the heat is added slowly. The study is motivated by the occurrence of such f] ows in fires. There, the time scale associated with the fire growth and resultant f]uid moti on is usually l...

Experimental Methods for Quantitative Analysis of Thermally Driven Flows

Properly designed validation experiments are necessary to establish a satisfactory level of confidence in simulation algorithms. In this review recent achievements in the measurement techniques used for monitoring macroscopic flow field features are presented. In particular, optical and electro-optical methods, for example thermography, tomography or particle image velocimetry, are reviewed and...

Nonclassical Shallow Water Flows

This paper deals with violent discontinuities in shallow water flows with large Froude number F . On a horizontal base, the paradigm problem is that of the impact of two fluid layers in situations where the flow can be modelled as two smooth regions joined by a singularity in the flow field. Within the framework of shallow water theory we show that, over a certain timescale, this discontinuity ...
